The Power to Transform

The Power To Change

We are more powerful than we know, because we have the power to change. Change comes within and change starts with our choices. We have made choices that have lead us to where we are. If we want to change, we must start making different choices.

I’ve been feeling a bit stuck lately. I’ve been envisioning where I want to be, making a plan to get there, but lacking the execution to get to where I want to go. It’s easy to make all kind of excuses. “I don’t have the time. I have other priorities. I’ll do it later.” Excuses lead to disappointment in ourselves.

I’ve learned two things recently, to change we must first believe we can do it. Secondly, instead of self beating ourselves into transformation, we must love ourselves and feel our worth to get there.

Sadana is a practice leading to a specific goal. The goal is intended for spiritual evolvement. The practice can be anything you are committing to for betterment. The key is you must be consistent and it must be EVERY DAY. For something to become habit, you need to commit to it for at least 21- 30 days. Is there something you can do for 15 minutes a day that will put you on the path towards you goal? Because even 15 minutes a day can make a huge difference. Fifteen minutes a day can help you to"find yourself” and move through the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of your day in a much happier, more inspired and alive way. We can all find 15 minutes in the day, right? We’re worth AT LEAST THAT.

Last week I discussed the 5th yama, Aparigraha or non-possessiveness/non-attachment in class. We make choices and expect a certain outcome. Krishna said, “Let your concern be with the action alone, and never with the fruits of action. Do not let the results of your action be your motive, and do not be attached to inaction.”

We expect quick results. We give up when things are taking longer than expected. Yoga and Samana teaches us to focus on the path and not the destination. We learn mindfulness. Whatever Samana you choose, let the process be the purpose. Recognize you deserve that and are worth that time. In this way, it becomes a spiritual endeavor.
